That lefty at San Mateo will live forever...The C option was the choosen one for the pier at San Mateo. Photo: www.subpesca.gov.ec

Here we come again with news from Ecuador...sorry for not publishing them on time, so here's what happened in our local surfing world this last month.

Well let's begin with the Billabong ISA World Surfing Games in Costa Rica; everybody read about it and of course everyone knew that the team USA claim the gold medal. However, among the underdogs as people call us, Ecuador (6170 points) placed 14th out of 35 in the overall team standings with Adrián Dapelo as its best rider in the Open division.

In later August, one of the best news of the year came from Manta: our lefty wave at San Mateo would be still alive. The long debate for the construction of the fishing pier, that had been like a headache for both local fishermen and surfers, came to an end with only winners...the C option was choosen and with that, there will be an amazing pier that will help the fishing activities at San Mateo and the surf spot will still live.

Then came the 4th stop of our national surfing championship at Pico Hambre. Although the conditions weren't the best, with great surfing and amazing maneuvres, Adrián Dapelo won the trophy and placed first in the 2009 ranking continuing his great performance of the year; 2 stops under his arm and the best place of the team in Costa Rica make us think he is going directly to the championship...let's wait La Fae, his trainnig spot, for the next stop...

And talking about the national surfing championship, the fifth stop is just waiting for the perfect swell to come...maybe next week, let's see...

4th stop at Pico Hambre
